چکیده

1 The release of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) from the cerebral cortex and caudate nucleus of brainstem-transected cats and from the cerebral cortex of rats anaesthetized with urethane was determined by radioenzymatic and biological assay. 2 The stimulation of nucleus linearis intermedius of raphe doubles the basal 5-HT release in the caudate nucleus and increases it 3 fold in the cerebral cortex. The effects of the electrical stimulation of the raphe are potentiated by chlorimipramine. 3 Brain 5-HT release is greatly increased by morphine hydrochloride (6 mg/kg i.v.) and by physostigmine (100 jg/kg i.v.), but not by DL-DOPA (50 mg/kg i.v.). 4 It is suggested that the 5-HT releasing action of physostigmine can contribute to some of its pharmacological effects such as the analgesic effect so far attributed exclusively to its indirect cholinomimetic activity. 5 The 5-HT releasing action of physostigmine seems unrelated to its anticholinesterase activity.

Effects of 5,7 dihyroxytryptamine injection in dorsal and median raphe nuclei on morphine dependenc

previous studies have shown that morphine addiction is caused by abnormality in neurotransmission system.serotonin is one of the most important neurotransmiters involved in addiction.the dorsal and median raphe nuclei are the important sites that synthesize and release this neurotransmiters in this study we have injected 5,7  dihyroxytryptamine a serotonergic neurotoxin into the dorsal and medi...

Alterations in cerebral cortical galanin concentrations following neurotransmitter-specific subcortical lesions in the rat.

Galanin is associated with multiple projection neurons, and its immunoreactivity in the cerebral cortex may be derived from diverse sources. We investigated the effects of subcortical lesions on cerebral cortical galanin concentrations. Lesions of the anterior noradrenergic bundle (ANB) comparably reduced cerebral cortical galanin and norepinephrine (NE) concentrations. The effects of the ANB l...

Stereological study of the cerebral and cerebellar cortex following short time exposure to morphine in rats

Drug abuse has been claimed to cause the loss of neurons and reduction of volume in both the adult and developing brain. This study examined cortex volumes in cerebrum and cerebellum of male rats that were dependent on morphine using unbiased stereological counting methods and systematic random sampling technique. Our goal was to test whether short time exposure to morphine can affect the corte...

Preferential potentiation of the effects of serotonin uptake inhibitors by 5-HT1A receptor antagonists in the dorsal raphe pathway: role of somatodendritic autoreceptors.

5-HT1A autoreceptor antagonists enhance the effects of antidepressants by preventing a negative feedback of serotonin (5-HT) at somatodendritic level. The maximal elevations of extracellular concentration of 5-HT (5-HT(ext)) induced by the 5-HT uptake inhibitor paroxetine in forebrain were potentiated by the 5-HT1A antagonist WAY-100635 (1 mg/kg s.c.) in a regionally dependent manner (striatum ...
